Jobs and Skills Australia’s legacy profile for Real Estate Sales Agents reports median weekly earnings of $1,504 before tax and salary sacrifice for full-time, non-managerial employees paid at adult rates in the ANZSCO 6121 group, based on May 2025 data. The profile covers a broad occupation group and warns that its ANZSCO-based pages will no longer be updated. It is a dated benchmark, not a 2026 starting salary. JSA occupation profile.
That careful description matters more than a dramatic comparison with a sports car. We have not established one universal median covering every agent, agency owner, contractor and new employee.
Separate the kinds of money
A social post might show a sale price, agency revenue, one person’s gross commission, business profit or personal wealth. Those are different measures. A successful settlement can be a real achievement without revealing the creator’s annual income or costs.
Some experienced agents do very well. Some creators also earn money through activities beyond property sales. Unless the person supplies reliable records and clear definitions, their content cannot answer what you would earn in your first role.
Wanting a better income is a fair reason to explore a career. You do not need to dismiss someone else’s success to ask whether their example fits your starting point.
Give every money figure a name
Give every number a label
Before using an earnings claim, ask four questions: Who does it describe? What period does it cover? Is it before tax and costs? Is it a wage, revenue, profit or wealth figure?
For official employee earnings data, also read the survey scope. The ABS Employee Earnings and Hours collection measures employee pay and hours; it is not a census of every business owner’s wealth. ABS Employee Earnings and Hours.
Compare the offer you can actually accept
Your local role may involve different hours, duties, support and pay terms from those of the person online. Start with the written fixed pay, then examine the incentive formula and the training offered. Ask what a new employee will learn during an ordinary week.
Avoid building rent or loan commitments around an unverified “top performer” number. Use it as a reason to ask better questions, not as your budget.
Your next step
Read What can you earn in your first year in real estate? guide and compare two or three actual opportunities. Keep the ambition. Add evidence, a clear definition of pay and enough patience to learn the work behind the polished result.
