Starting in SA, Tasmania, the ACT or the NT: four different pathways

A national qualification can be useful, but local entry rules still decide your next step.

Australian overview — named state examples stay local. Educational information; no personal eligibility or outcome is promised.

These four jurisdictions do not share one entry course or registration process. Check your intended role with the relevant regulator before choosing units.

South Australia: check the role and conditions

SA requires sales representatives to register with Consumer and Business Services. Property management is a separate scope to check. A sales representative who also wants to do property management must have the relevant condition added.

SA also describes an “under supervision” route for eligible people still completing training. It has direct supervision and completion requirements. If an employer suggests this option, ask who will supervise you and how the training plan will work. SA sales representative requirements

Tasmania: ask about the Board’s examination

Tasmania’s Property Agents Board says an applicant for a property representative licence must have passed its examination within the previous two years, or satisfy the Board by examination or inquiry that they have enough knowledge and experience. Do not assume a generic CPP41419 course replaces that process.

The Board also sets separate requirements for real estate agents and property managers. Check which category fits the duties, especially if the phrase “property manager” appears in a job ad. Tasmanian qualification requirements

ACT: local law matters in the training

The ACT assistant agent pathway requires five core CPP41419 units. Access Canberra says the training must be based on ACT law, even when it is completed in another jurisdiction. It can be supported by the statement of attainment or a letter from the provider.

If an online course accepts students nationally, ask how it teaches and records the ACT content. Online access from Canberra is not enough to answer that question. ACT assistant agent registration

NT: choose full or restricted scope

Licensing NT describes a full agent’s representative route using CPP41419, restricted sales or property management routes, and an interim training registration for eligible applicants. Each has conditions to check. Start with the exact work you have been offered, then ask which route applies. NT training pathways

Make the differences manageable

It can feel like four versions of the same puzzle. Use one small checklist: role, unit codes or examination, application documents, permission to begin and ongoing obligations. Keep answers in writing.

Training is only part of entry. Age, suitability, employer arrangements and local application rules can also matter. Before paying, ask the provider to explain how its course supports your chosen jurisdiction and identify anything you must arrange elsewhere.

Next step: Use the state and territory student guides, then follow the official page for your location rather than a national marketing summary.
